How an H0 logging layout, Timber Wolf was built
By
Paul Templar aka (Shamus)
First here's the track plan.

The bench work has been started. The two
frames sitting on top will have legs on soon, and be
put in place.

I now have the main frames up. You will notice that the centre section is way below the outside frames. Well, this is to allow for the front trestle to be 2' deep when in place.

Hard at it this morning making up all the "SKY" boards, each one with 2"x1" legs to attach to the main boards as soon as SKY /Mountains etc have been put on.
I now have the front area all cut away. This
will house the 2 foot
deep and 2 foot 6" long trestle bridge at the front of the layout.

Sky boards are now in place, Now I wait for the Postman to deliver to me 2 sets
of Mountain scenery backdrops, then I can paste it on the Hardboard. After that,
a start can be made on getting the track bed made up.

Back scenes arrived, and here they are in place. Now I can start on building this railroad. These back scenes are in fact an Alpine scene, but you will never see those building at the bottom. I liked the look of the mountains myself.

So far so good, now got the bridge supports ready for that huge trestle I am making later on.

The roadbed is now ready for track (At last) Just waiting for the earth coloured paint to dry off.

Busy with wiring Peco PL10 point motor's today, now got them all
ready for the Peco Points (Turnouts)

The points, showing cut out area's

Track on the right hand side is now complete. start later with the left side.
That circular saw (battery operated) is a God send for cutting Chipboard.

Started on the second level, that gap is where #2 bridge will go later on.

Second level now finished, and the third level is on its way. That G-clamp is just holding the glued joint under the track in place until it dries hard.

Now got the final top level complete as far as the roadbed.
Laying track later when paint has dried off.

First log cribbed trestle bridge made. Still have the rather large one to do later.

The log cribbed trestle was taken from a prototype photo, the original was much much longer than mine. Okay, I have started on that Hugh trestle bridge..

Now nearly completed, just needs crisscross woodwork in open spaces.

Now finished all the crisscross woodwork on it, nearly done with it now thank goodness.

Waiting for a turntable to be delivered so I can get on and finish the track
work on the left side of the layout. In the mean time -- making smaller bents
for the switchback area.

Most of that hugh trestle and the small log cribbed plus the switchback area.

Last part of the smaller trestle bents went in today.

Turntable arrived from Peco with compliments
from Andrew Burnham Editor of "Continental Modeller" I rang him 2 weeks ago
about one and expected to pay for it. What a surprise that was. Thank you
Andrew.
Still have a lot to do to the turntable yet, Gallows have to be constructed and
it needs a paint job also.

Turntable took a while, but it is finished apart from the well which needs
weathering etc along with the Turntable itself.

Got all the track work finished. A start on
the wiring will take place today sometime.

All wiring now completed and control panel
working. This photo shows the mass of wires, all point motor and power to track
wires. (Blocks if you like ) Nuts and bolts seen are for ("STUD AND
PROBE")

Here's the front and tidy view

Profile boards now in place.

Hugh bridge in front with a 3 truck shay on top.

Started with the interlaced card, next step is to go over it all with brown parcel tape.

Showing all 3 levels.

Now finished the messy job of ballasting last night, and got it all cleaned out and locos running again.

Scenery started at last. Had to take out the big bridge to plaster.

Bridge back in place, next time it comes out
will be to paint the plaster behind it.

Nearly finished all the plastering, only parts left are tiny area's..

Started to paint the scenery now, got some of it done, next stage on this part will be to add some grass as a starter for the rubbish that will be in place later on. Plus tree's

Busy painting and putting some icing on the cake, lots to do yet, but its a start.

A start on the sawmill area now an on-going
project for a few days. I have finished scratch building the sawmill, and log
ramp to the pond. so its just a question now of getting the water in and the
rest of the surrounding area completed to some degree.

Plus a scratch build I did some time back, now sitting at home in the woods.

Next I set about scratch building camp cars, these are now finished except for weathering them later on and--------- I do need some trees behind as well, guess that's the next stage "tree making"

2 truck shay brings in a new donkey engine, soon to be delivered into the woods.

Filers shack added. Heisler about to leave the freight depot.

Looking inside of the sawmill. plus the sawmill area.

Here's a new bunk house being taken to the camp site.

Bunk house in place at the rear of the camp.

2 truck shay trying to keep back a pair of
heavy logs on disconnects from getting away

Some of the log monkeys at work

Scratch built climax body on an old MDC climax
chassis making its way past the freight depot also scratch built.

Final photos of the H0 railroad.

Hope you enjoyed the ride, have fun Paul Templar
