Many thanks all...

After all, it's John Denver-he always adds an extra dimension...

It has been a crazy time for me because of huge work pressure, other responsibilities and as always, due to my varied interests in many subjects. So I could not post any update in last few days, but I am definitely working...

Here is the first set of photos with reinforcement plates and the Strut:

At this point we were still deciding on the final paint scheme... and as it stands today, it's been decided as red...

Red? Do you mean like the flat primer red? That might look good.

Here is the set of pictures with red color scheme. Track is colored... but still some finishing job left for my wife to do...

Mostly the detailing part of the bridge is over. Now I need to make an electrical "drop and connect" circuit on the bridge and the the pier set with electrical connection on the far side of the bridge... then I am done with this one...

By the way, I forgot to mention that, the counter weight here is merely a representation-made out of cardboard. I am still deciding on how to operate the bridge-and decided on one thing, that the closing action of the bridge will be totally gravity driven-controlled by a mechanism which will make the animation prototypically slow. So I left the bridge out of balance-unlike the prototype (funny-because balancing the weight is the main principle of bascule bridge!!!)

If you have noticed, I have left a small extension on the other side of the trunnion as opposed to the leaf (circled in the picture). I know it's crude, but I initially thought of hand driven tiny pulley system to lift the bridge-pulling from the point as marked by an arrow in the picture. But soon I discovered, that the idea is foolish, if talking mechanically-the mechanical advantage becomes a tiny fraction and it will require relatively a large force to lift the bridge.

Now I need some ideas on a lifting method for this bridge, which is not too complicated, will be hidden under the baseboard and will also control the motion of the bridge during the closing action...

ANY IDEAS ARE WELCOME...

Thanks in advance...

Well, along with the container ship, some changes were made to the Bascule bridge as well. The paint scheme has changed to steel gray. Also, I my wife has made tiny rivets using drops of acrylic paints - little blobs of gray paint in series using a toothpick!

I wanted this bridge to be weathered, not heavily, but quite weathered. There is a story in store for this as well. For weathering my wife used colored charcoal mixed with light solution of gum and weather. I really like the effect.
