My hobbies include trains, planes and automobiles ( military ones! ) amongst other things, and while there are no trains in these pics, they do include two of my other passions - planes and automobiles
So I couldn't resist from sharing these pictures that I took at RAF Leeming at the weekend. They feature my 'Follow Me' Jeep and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster. It's not often you get an opportunity like this, so I jumped at the chance of a photo shoot when I found out the BBMF were landing at Leeming while I was there on Saturday. Have actually marshalled that lot in on the exact pan you took the pictures at Steve and the last flying RAF Lightning, which was eventually parked over by 11 Sqns hangar, and one real rarity - a DeHavilland Dragon Rapide!
Remember getting a call from a young female officer in the tower one Sunday informing us that there was " a navy Heron diverting in for fuel", I asked if the colour was important! there was a 2 or 3 second pause and the phone was put down ![]() |

I flew Chipmunks at Leeming in the early 1980's in the Air Cadets, and have only made one visit since then.

Nice photos - thanks for sharing them.
You would like to talk to a friend of mine who is also a model railroader and also happens to be my daughter's father-in-law (or my granddaughter's other grandfather ) - ANYWAY - he crews on a B-17 that flies around the US at air shows. It's called Aluminum Overcast.I know he would love to see those planes. I'll send him a link.

My Jeep is a mix of dozens of Willys MB Jeeps and the license built French copy, as it was the subject of a French Army rebuild in 1966, which involved a complete strip down and rebuild from which ever reconditioned parts were next off the refurbishing line. After so long in French Army service, all their Jeeps got a rebuild, sometimes more than once, so very little of the original vehicle was left and they soon became a mix of dozens of different vehicles. My Jeep was used by the French Army up until 1995. The chassis is a French license built version dated '58, the engine was made August 18th, 1944.
The full story of my Jeep can be found here - Jessie the Jeep Steve

There's a Phantom there, but didn't see any Lightning.

Hopefully someone has bought it for restoration and it hasn't gone to the big scrap yard in the sky. I remember some of the Sqn guys offered to keep it running in their spare time but the Sqn boss said no, he was a real killjoy that bloke
