Default MRC II Sound Generator 8000

I just purchased a semi complete HO layout that the owner decided he did not want to finish; he had bought it from the person who had started to build it and sold it for reasons unknown to me. Lots of rolling stock, some buildings and lots of brass track and turnouts.

Also included are a MRC Tech II Loco-Motion 2500 transformer and a MRC Tech II Sound Generator 8000. In the box was a small circuit board marked ter8000, that has 5 wires, 1 white, 1 black, 1 red & 2 blue. Does anyone know if this goes with the Sound Generator? I’m not familiar with the Sound Generator. If anybody has instructions for the Sound Generator I sure would appreciate a copy.

Thanks in advance

Hi Bob,

The tech II 8000 is all you need, that other thing with 5 wires I have not heard of.

On the back of that TeckII you will see 6 screwdriver slots, marked 1-2 3-4 5-6
1 2 are the speaker hook up, 3 4 14-24volts DC power and 5 6 track voltage input.

Thanks Shamus,

Thats what I thought but can not figure what this circuit board is for. Since the number on the board is "ter 8000" I thought maybe it was for the Sound since it has the 8000 in the number. I'll hook it up tonight and see if it works.

Well I hooked it up and the good news is NO smoke !!!!!!! It seems to work, but I thought the rate of steam chuffs would change with the throttle position. The only way the chuff speed changes is with the rate control knob.

I did get this info over on 2 Guyz and Sum Trains.

"The circuit board is part of the sound system. It provided "under the layouts steam and diesel sounds plus some prerecorded messages like "all aboard" circus sounds and etc."

I also got a link to a fellows railroad that uses the SG 8000. I sent him a email and waiting to see what info he can provide.

Heck I'm not nervous, I've burnt up and blown up more than one thing. LOL
