Question New set in mind

I have looked into a new layout. The one im finishing now is not DCC. If i got a new one i might look into DCC. About how much more does it cost.

Depends how extreme you would like to go I have Digitrax Super Cief 5 amp it was around $350 US http://www.litchfieldstation.com/xcart/home.php?cat=23 then of course there's many add ons from there and decoders for the engines.

piece of string question that one

how many trains do you have to decode. you can get a basis DCC controller for AU$100, US$80, GBP40 and then decoders for the locos so for GBP50 you could actually be away.

From what I've heard, if you're going DCC then it's worth buying an upper-end control unit, or you'll only have to upgrade it

The loco decoders start at about UK£10, but quality, number of functions etc vary again. So, although for a cheap controller + 1 engine setup you could be looking at ~UK£50 (e.g. a number of manufacturers are doing "digital train sets" these days with this sort of kit), for a decent set-up with decoders for your exisating engines I'd say you're looking at UK£300+ (which is one reason I've not made the switch yet! )

Hi,
When i got my DCC system from the National show in Birmingham last year
it was a NCE power cab system and I purchased 3 drop in digitrax decoders for some of my kato loco's and that cost GBP 177, I have now spent approx 200 GBP on decoders and have about 12 locos now converted

I have purchased a few digitrax decoders from the USA but haven't got any past customs with out getting charged,
last go I got 4 drop in digitrax decoders and with charges worked out about 21 GBP each,
these normally sell at about 27 GBP so still saved abit,

cheers Neil...
