Default Where can I buy basswood?

The questions says it all really. I'd like to get hold of some of this to make some models, but am having trouble finding supplies. I'm in Norfolk, although travelling to Sussex/Kent in the new year. Any suggestions on suppliers?

Kiwi, basswood and balsa are pretty much one and the same. If you want something a bit harder, try and get some birch

I do not think u are going to find basswood in england at hobby shops.

www.mtalbert.com is in canada has HO...S...O...G scale sizes of basswood

northeastern scale lumber company in mass. USA has a large selection of HO scale sizes and shapes. I deal with this company the most. They will take your order by telephone and your visa by telephone and ship next day..............good peaple great product...they also have online ordering

Hi Kiwi and welcome to AMR

If you are wanting hardwood for scratchbuilding, your local hobby shop should be able to get it for you, failing that try "Billings boats" (UK) they stock all wood.

Bass wood and Jelutong (not sure of the spelling) are two of the main woods used by wildlife carvers. In the states Bass is fairly easy to get. Jelutong I believe is Brazilian and getting harder to find. Try looking up web sites for wildlife (in particular bird) carvers. Also Bass is not the same as balsa. Its a harder wood. It is a wood with very little distinctive grain which helps it from spliting and thus carves well and keeps it shape. Any wood used by carvers will be a good wood for modelers.

Check out the website ( acsupply.com ). This is where I buy all my basswood and it is reasonably priced and in large quanities.
