Default Hand-laid garden track

I recently bought a house with a big garden (over 1000 sq m) and I plan a nice
garden railroad layout on it (maybe live steam if I have enough time).

I have a question about track laying: did anyone did handlay track in the garden, and if yes, how?
Wooden sleepers or metal sleepers soldered?

I'm very new to this railroading and have no idea where to start...
