Default Starting new layout

I am about to start (yet another) logging layout. I am debating wether it should be in N or Z scale (since i don't have much space -- wife is already not too happy).

What is your opinion, is Z too small to make a detailed logging operation? Or the
engines dont have the power for the 3% hills?

I have about 1,3m x 0,70m space...
I have done one HO layout and now finishing a HO diorama.

What kind of narrow gauge? I just looked at Nn3 layouts which run on Z scale. But i guess the trains and scenery are N scale?

you are correct. Nn3 is N-Scale scenery, people, housing, trains, etc. but running on z-scale track.

You could do OO9 which is N scale track with OO gauge stock which is very popular in the UK. Where do you live Stephen??

I live in Finland, I can only get what I can order online.
What I would really like to do is a mine narrow gauge railroad, with tunnels
and sidings inside the mountain, but somehow visible from outside also.
Does anyone have some links about mining operation (what buildings are needed, rolling stock, etc.)
I also want to model the inside of the mine

Hi Istvan, welcome. I guess the best place to start would be Google. There are hundreds of sites that deal with mines and mining. Far to many to list. Lots of videos on Youtube about model railroads with mining themes as well.

Good luck.

Is HOn3 running on N gauge track? I was thinking to use that.
Or maybe On30, but maybe that is too large for a layout of 1200mm x 700 mm...

What do you think?

Hi Stephen,
Take a look at this:
http://www.rail.lu/granderegionmines.html

It's about mining in and around Luxemburg (the one in Europe).
Mainly ore was taken out of the mines but it can give you an idea for the tools and rolling stock used as you also want to model the inside.
